Many people find so called "background music" to be annoying.
The ADA coordinator for the City of Albuquerque reports that 17% of New Mexicans have some degree of hearing loss.
That translates into over 100,000 people in the greater Albuquerque area who are hard of hearing. Background music is a form of noise pollution that adds to their disability and makes it difficult or sometimes even impossible to communicate with others.
In recognition of their sensitivity to the needs of those with a hearing disability, and those who just enjoy a quiet, peaceful environment,
Albuquerque SHHH says thank you
to the following businesses for their policy of not playing (or only softly playing) background music.
